Registered Nurse (PCU) - Roanoke, Virginia

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU - Progressive Care Unit, General Medicine/Observation)
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Day shifts, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
• Hours per Week: 36 hours
• Weekend Requirement: May be every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
• Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• Floating: Required to float within skillset

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in PCU - Progressive Care Unit
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience in Telemetry
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Clinical & Unit Details

• Patient Ratios: Typically 1:5, goal ratio 1:4
• Telemetry: Remote monitoring with monitors remaining on the unit; tele-sitting support available
• Charting System: Epic experience required

Additional Requirements

• References: Two clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted)
• Background Checks: 7-year background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be current within 1 year of start
• Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Health Documents:

  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; updated annually
  • Required immunizations or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
• Other Documentation:

  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID with address within 100 miles of facility required within 48 hours of signing
  • E-Verify or attestation required
  • Education verification of highest earned degree
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
  • Completion of facility-specific new hire paperwork and orientation materials prior to start
  • Professional photo for badge required

Scheduling & Policies

• Call-off Policy: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
• Requests: All return-to-office, block, and special scheduling requests must be submitted with application
• First-Time Travelers: Accepted
• Locals: Accepted (subject to radius criteria)
