Registered Nurse – ER (Night Shift) – Massachusetts, Worcester

Job Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Night shift, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
  • Start Dates: 7/8 or 7/15
  • Shift Flexibility: Start time may flex up to 4 hours before or after 7:00 PM only in urgent staffing needs (very rare)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Massachusetts
  • Minimum 1.5 years of nursing experience
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Ability to read telemetry
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Orientation and Testing

  • Two pass/fail exams at orientation:
    • Medication exam (required for all RNs)
    • Telemetry exam (required for RNs working in telemetry units, including Labor & Delivery)
  • Only one attempt allowed per exam; failure results in immediate contract cancellation
  • Minimum passing score: 80%
  • Study materials provided before orientation

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background Check: 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, county search, national criminal search, and federal databases
  • Education Verification: Third-party verification of highest completed education or transcript with graduation date (diplomas not accepted)
  • Statewide iCORI Clearance: Required within 30 days prior to start
  • Physical Exam: Within 12 months of start, including physician statement of fitness to work without restrictions, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA
  • Drug Testing: Within 30 days of start; must include a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methaqualone, opiates, phencyclidine, methadone, propoxyphene, fentanyl, oxycodone)
  • Immunizations/Vaccinations: Required or documented declination (declinations not accepted for Pediatrics, Maternity, NICU):
    • COVID-19 (most recent vaccine or facility-specific declination)
    • Flu seasonal vaccination or declination (required during flu season)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (3-dose series, reactive titer, or declination with documentation)
  • TB Testing: Two PPDs (one within 90 days, one within 1 year) or QuantiFERON/T-Spot within 90 days; positive results require chest X-ray and facility-specific TB questionnaire
  • Other Health Documents: Facility-specific declinations for MMR, Hepatitis B, TDAP, Varicella, and COVID-19 if applicable

Additional Requirements

  • References: Two references within the last three years
  • Employment History: Application must include 7 years of employment history with explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Skills Checklist: Required prior to start and updated annually as applicable
  • Competency Exams: Medication and telemetry competency exams required; EKG/dysrhythmia competency exam required for RNs in acute care, critical care, endoscopy/cath lab, PACU, and emergency department units (highly recommended to pass before start to avoid cancellation)
  • COVID-19 Declination: Required if declining updated COVID vaccine (deadline 01/25/24)
  • Pass/Fail Testing Acknowledgement: Must acknowledge understanding of pass/fail exam policy at orientation

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
  • Telemetry exam is not required for OR, Psychiatry, Mother-Baby/Postpartum, and NICU units.
  • This position requires strong telemetry reading skills and readiness to pass strict orientation exams.
  • EPIC experience is preferred but not mandatory.
