Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 17 weeks


Job Description

  • Specialty focus: Gynecology (GYN), Urology (GU), and Transplant surgeries (kidney and pancreas)
  • Experience with robotic surgeries including DaVinci Xi robot, urological robots, and GYN robots
  • Procedures involved: kidney transplant, hysterectomy, nephrectomy, HOLEP, cystectomy, ureteroscopy, laparoscopic gynecology, anterior/posterior repair, abdominal hysterectomy, and organ procurements
  • Shift schedule: Day/Evening shifts, 12-hour shifts (06:40–19:10) three times weekly, with potential for one 09:40–22:10 shift biweekly
  • Includes weekend rotation and weekday on-call requirement

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year
  • Experience in Gynecology/Oncology, Urology, Kidney transplant, Pancreas transplant, Transplant Surgery, and Robotic surgery
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including SSN trace and nationwide sex offender search
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check and BID form required prior to start
  • Education verification as applicable to nursing licensure
  • Drug screening per standard clinical requirements
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray with TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers, with medical or religious exemptions accepted
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer, with exemptions accepted
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or documented declination form
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination proof (if applicable)
  • Physical exam documentation recommended to meet agency standards
  • Photo for badge must meet facility specifications (passport-style, no headwear except for religious/medical reasons)

Testing and Competency Exams

  • Telemetry exams (Adult and Pediatric) required for applicable units, with strict passing criteria and remediation process
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge required prior to start and annually
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment and pass/fail testing for telemetry as required

Additional Requirements

  • Two clinical references within the last 3 years (agency standard)
  • Employment application and annual skills checklist required
  • Signed acknowledgment of facility safety and testing policies

Work Environment

  • Operating room setting with exposure to complex surgical procedures including robotic-assisted surgeries
  • Fast-paced, specialized surgical care requiring advanced clinical skills and adaptability
  • Collaborative team environment with multidisciplinary coordination

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with specialized skills in transplant and robotic surgeries who are comfortable with rotating shifts, weekend work, and on-call duties.
