Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Lexington, Kentucky

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU - Progressive Care Unit)
  • Location: Lexington, Kentucky
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 14 weeks (interpreted from 14)
  • Unit: Combined PCU and MS unit with floating between the two
  • Patient Focus: Emphasis on neuro patients with overflow patients as needed
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3-5 depending on acuity
  • Electronic Health Record: Epic experience required
  • Travelers: Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted
  • NIH Stroke Certification (NIHSS)
  • Must be trained on EMU for monitoring and interviewing epilepsy patients

Additional Preferred/Required Certifications (depending on unit specifics)

  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - required for Labor & Delivery
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy certification) if applicable
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) - required for ICU, PCU/Stepdown, ER, and other critical care units

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Med Surg experience
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with Epic Electronic Health Record system

Additional Notes

  • Must pass facility-specific EKG exam with a minimum score of 80%
  • Pass/Fail EKG test attempts limited to two; failure results in cancellation
  • Background checks and certifications must be current and renewed prior to contract start or during assignment if expiring
  • Must comply with facility-specific policies including confidentiality, acceptable use, electronic communications, and password policies
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with strong neuro and progressive care skills, who are comfortable floating between units and meeting rigorous certification and competency requirements.
