Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR) - North Dakota
Location
- City: Bismarck, North Dakota
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Specialty Options
OR General/Robotics
- Must be proficient in either Ortho/Neuro OR General/Robotics
- Cases per day: 25-30 on average
- Suites: 12 ORs, 1 Endo Suite, 1 Cysto Suite
- Common cases: Pediatric to Geriatrics, cystoscopy, DaVinci XI for General/GYN/Urology, ION robotic cases, open bellies, endoscopy/GI scope experience (refresher acceptable)
- Required experience: Minimum 3 years OR experience including open bellies, GYN, DaVinci XI, and endoscopy
OR Ortho/Neuro
- Cases per day: 25-30 on average
- Suites: 12 ORs, 1 Endo Suite, 1 Cysto Suite
- Common cases: Total joints (hips, knees, shoulders), sports medicine, arthroscopies, neuro-spinal fusions, cervical and lumbar cases, microdiscectomies, craniotomies (no awake large neuro cases)
- Required experience: Minimum 3 years OR experience in Ortho/Neuro
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license appropriate for North Dakota
- BLS Certification required
- Minimum 3 years of relevant OR nursing experience (based on specialty chosen)
- Must be willing to float to other specialty cases and to the floor as a 1:1 sitter or helping hands (training provided)
- Must be willing to work holidays and participate in call rotation
Work Schedule & Call
- Shifts: 8-hour shifts, typically 06:45-15:15 or 09:00-17:30
- Call requirements:
- Weeknights: 1-2 times per week (15:15-06:45)
- Weekends: Approximately every 3-4 weekends (Friday 15:15 to Monday 06:45)
- Holidays: Rotation with permanent staff
- Call response time: 15 minutes
- Post-call reprieve: 8-hour reprieve shifts available
- Sleep room and nearby housing available for call coverage
Orientation & Training
- Hospital orientation: 3-4 days
- Unit-specific orientation: 4-5 days (depending on specialty)
- Buddy call shifts: 2 shifts
Additional Information
- RNs are not required to scrub
- Charge Nurse coverage on all shifts (7a-11p M-F, 7a-7p weekends)
- Manager available until 4p M-F
- OR techs present on all shifts
- EMR system: EPIC
- Scrub color and dress code provided
- Family atmosphere in the department
- Floating to other specialties and floor duties required; refusal results in unpaid supplemental time off
- Ability to pick up extra shifts for 1:1 sitting to supplement hours if case volume is low
Notes
- Candidates must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related health system within a 50-mile radius
- Return to onsite (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with at least 3 years of specialty experience in either General/Robotics or Ortho/Neuro surgical nursing, who are flexible with floating and call responsibilities.
