2 West MedSurg RN

Overview

• Location: Jackson, Mississippi
• Facility type: University Hospital
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights
• Hours: 12 hours per shift, 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Mississippi
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• BLS
• Med Surg / Telemetry (2 years of experience)
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• Trauma experience
• Experience with titratable or cardiac IV medications (heparin drips)
• Experience with Epic
• Flu vaccination is required
• FBI fingerprinting is required
• 50-mile radius rule applies to traveler rate eligibility

Preferred

• At least 1 completed travel assignment

Unit Details

• Med/Surg unit
• 2 West has 13 beds
• 6 West has 14 beds
• 7 South has 12 beds
• 4 Wiser has 30 beds
• 5 Wiser has 25 beds
• Every unit has tele capability
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 up to 1:6
• Charge RNs have ACLS
• RN titrates heparin drips
• Common patient types include general medsurg, congestive heart failure, diabetes, post-surgical, trauma, acute kidney injury, sickle cell anemia, gastroparesis, and respiratory illnesses
• RT equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, and vents

Schedule and Staffing

• No self-scheduling
• Travelers are expected to fill holes, with block scheduling accommodated when possible
• Every other weekend or 2 weekends per month is standard
• Holidays rotate with regular staff
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating is within skillset across all medsurg units

Orientation

• First day includes paperwork, attestations, logins for Omnicel and Epic, unit tour, and scheduling discussion
• Two additional shifts with a preceptor
