Adult Cardiac Intensive Care Unit RN
Overview
- 20-bed adult cardiac ICU with all private, monitored rooms
- 12-hour night shifts
- Every other weekend and every other holiday
- Float to every level of care and take a full team
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- CVICU (2 years of experience)
- CVICU experience within the last year
- Prior travel experience required
- Experience working with Cardiac patients
- Experience working with STEMI patients
- Experience working with NSTEMI patients
- Experience with swan-ganz catheters
- Experience with arterial lines
- Experience with temporary pacemakers
- Experience with intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)
- Ability to titrate vasoactive drips (dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, norepinephrine, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, esmolol)
Preferred
- ACLS
- CCRN
- More than 3-5 years of CVICU experience
- Experience with immediate post-op patients
- Experience with VAD and transplant patients
Clinical Setting
- Patient population includes post open heart surgical patients, CABG, valves, CABG/Valve, dissections, AAA, vascular procedures, carotids, post cardiovascular procedures, STEMI, unstable angina, unstable N-STEMI, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, targeted temperature management, transcutaneous pacing, transvenous pacing, severe heart failure, TAVRs, cardiac-related ICU events, ventilated patients, overflow patients from other ICUs including COVID patients
- Soon to include post VAD placement and post heart transplant patients
- Common equipment and therapies include IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz, ECMO, external pacemakers, CRRT, ventilators, CPAP, BPAP, heated high flow, and nitric oxide
- Common lines include PICC, midlines, CVC, Swans, and arterial lines
- Temporary pacemakers are used frequently
- Philips monitoring is used
- Charge nurses are present 24/7 and may take teams at times
- House supervisor is present 24/7
- PCTs are available
- Respiratory therapists are available 24/7
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts, 7a-7p or 7p-7a
- No self-scheduling for non-AHU Mission Partners
- No block scheduling
