Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER)

Location: Redwood City, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Emergency Room (ER) Registered Nurse for a travel assignment in a hospital setting. The ER unit handles typical emergency cases, is not a trauma center, and serves a high affluent population.

Work Schedule

• 12-hour shifts (7a-7p, 11p-11a, day shifts vary between 7a-11a)
• Evening shift available
• Every other weekend required
• Holidays scheduled according to permanent staff coverage
• Charge nurse coverage 24/7; night charge nurse (11p-11a) also performs triage and may take patient assignments
• Floating is unlikely but possible with ICU, Telemetry, or MedSurg experience

Unit Details

• ER unit capable of handling 15 beds with an average daily census of 57 patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio approximately 1:4, depending on acuity
• ER tech (EMT) support from 7p-6:30a, able to perform EKGs, splinting, and casting
• Use of Cerner FirstNet EMR system
• Telemetry monitoring via Phillips system
• Respiratory therapists available 24/7
• Pharmacy available in-house until 10 pm, with 24/7 access through an on-call pharmacist after hours
• Hospitalist and intensivist coverage on-call after hours (5p and weekends)
• No dedicated IV team

Patient Population & Care Notes

• Typical ER patients, including walk-ins
• Cath lab with excellent door-to-balloon times
• Stroke patients may receive drip therapy and transfer to a nearby tertiary center
• Critically ill pediatric patients transferred to a specialized children's hospital 15 minutes away
• The ER is known for exceptional patient care and amenities such as personal care baskets

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience in a similar-sized emergency department
• Active California RN license
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
• COVID-19 vaccination required with certification

Orientation & Training

• Two-shift floor-specific orientation with a preceptor

• Scrub color: Navy
• Break relief provided by charge nurse or designated break relief nurse during night shifts
• First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply
