Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR)

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Day (7:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 40 hours (10 hours per day)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to a group of patients during a designated time frame. Responsibilities include patient assessment, planning and implementing care, documentation, and ensuring patient and staff safety within the OR environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all unit-specific nursing duties within the scope of service.
  • Conduct initial patient assessments upon admission and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Implement and modify nursing interventions based on ongoing patient evaluation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
  • Prepare the OR suite with necessary supplies, equipment, and medications.
  • Interview patients using two identifiers (name and birthdate).
  • Safely transport and position patients for surgery, following safety protocols and performing required timeouts.
  • Support the surgical team by responding to intraoperative requests (e.g., supplies, blood, specimens).
  • Transport patients to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) or designated unit and provide thorough handoff to receiving staff.
  • Participate in on-call rotation.
  • Be comfortable floating to General OR as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.

  • Workdays are scheduled with one day off to be determined.
