Travel RN Opportunity – PCU Unit, Hermitage, Tennessee

Position Details

Unit Information

• Number of Beds:

  • Unit 630: 34 beds
  • Unit 633: 25 beds
• Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 1:4 to 1:5
  • Nights: 1:5 to 1:6
• Staffing:

  • Unit secretaries and tech availability
  • 3 techs when full on Unit 630
  • 2 techs when full on Unit 633
• Equipment Used:

  • Bipaps, high flow oxygen, Vapotherm
  • Alaris pumps
  • Cardiac, heparin, and insulin drips
  • Peritoneal dialysis
  • Wound vacs (in conjunction with wound care)
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Scheduling:

  • 3 twelve-hour shifts per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • Self-scheduling with 4-week schedules
• Floating Policy: May float between PCU units or to med-surg floors
• Patient Experience:

  • Hourly rounding on days
  • Every 2-hour rounding on nights
  • AIDET communication and maintaining communication boards (7th floor and Unit 633 TV boards)

Required Certifications & Skills

• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• Must Have Skills:

  • Critical thinking
  • EKG rhythm interpretation
  • Experience with cardiac, insulin, and heparin drips
  • Peripheral IV skills
• Preferred Skills:

  • Peritoneal dialysis experience
• Advanced Skills Needed:

  • Experience with bipaps, high flow oxygen, and multiple oxygen delivery systems
  • Stroke and post-cardiac catheterization care
  • Tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tube management

• Peritoneal dialysis
• Thoracentesis
• Paracentesis
• Chest tube insertions
• Dobhoff/NG tube insertions
• Central line dressing changes
• Troubleshooting wound vacs

Dress Code

• Black scrubs required

• The unit fosters a "care like family" culture with strong teamwork
• Most travelers choose to extend their assignments after their first PCU contract
• Techs are utilized to assist with patient care
• Self-scheduling allows flexibility within the 4-week schedule blocks
