Travel RN Opportunity - Tennessee (Hermitage)

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
• Location: Hermitage, Tennessee
• Employment Type: Travel
• Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Beds: 34 beds in one unit, 25 beds in another
• Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 1:4 to 1:5
  • Nights: 1:5 to 1:6
• Staffing: 2-3 techs per unit when fully staffed
• Equipment: Bipaps, high flow oxygen, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, peritoneal dialysis, wound vacs (with wound care)
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Scheduling:

  • 3 twelve-hour shifts per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • Self-scheduling with 4-week schedules
• Floating: May float between PCU units or to med-surg floors
• Patient Experience: Hourly rounding on days, every 2 hours on nights, AIDET communication, and maintaining communication boards

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in specialty
• Critical thinking skills
• EKG rhythm interpretation
• Experience with cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips
• Peripheral IV skills
• Experience with bipaps, high flow oxygen, and multiple oxygen delivery systems
• Stroke and post-cardiac catheterization care
• Tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tube management
• Central line dressing changes
• Procedures performed on unit include:

  • Peritoneal dialysis (preferred experience)
  • Thoracentesis
  • Paracentesis
  • Chest tube insertions
  • Dobhoff/NG tube insertions
  • Wound vac troubleshooting

Dress Code

• Black scrubs required

Additional Information

• The unit fosters a "care like family" culture with strong teamwork
• Most travelers extend their contracts after their first assignment on PCU
• Techs are utilized to assist with patient care
• Every other weekend work is required for the contract duration
