RN - Med Surg Telemetry

Overview

Travel RN position in Wilson, North Carolina
13-week assignment
36 hours per week
Shifts: 7A or 7P
Every other or every third weekend
No call requirements

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in North Carolina
Med Surg / Telemetry (1 year of experience)
Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
BLS
ACLS
NIHSS
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Preferred Experience

Meditech experience preferred

Unit Details

Telemetry unit with 22 beds
Adult and geriatric patient population
Typical patient ratio: 5:1 or 6:1
Float requirements: yes
Med/Surg overflow
Common diagnoses/treatments include CHF, chest pain, ARF, COPD, uncontrolled diabetes, CKD, and post-cardiac cath care

Skills and Work Environment

EKG interpretation and critical thinking are helpful
Preferred experience includes managing discharges and admissions and basic cardiac drip knowledge
Team-oriented and flexible personality preferred
Artificial nails are not allowed

Pros

Doctors and most of staff are nice. Surgeries are not hard.

Cons

No staff so a lot of call. You will be on call within your first week or two, even if you don't know how to do anything. Unorganized. The director and supervisor don't know anything about the OR nor are they helpful. New staff are not properly trained. Everything falls on the OR nurse to do. They preop in house patients getting surgery. A couple of OR staff are bullies and lazy, they all think they are the boss. They tell the charge nurse what they are going to do and not going to do. Its like high school all over. Had to leave out of fear for my license.
