Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU Travel Position
Location: Wilson, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Work Environment
- Unit: ICU and Intermediate Medical Unit (IMU) with Telemetry overflow
- Number of Beds: 16
- Patient Ratios: ICU 2:1, IMU 3:1, Telemetry 1:5
- Equipment: Cardiac monitor, Hill-Rom Progressive Care bed with scale, Abbott Glucometer, EndoTool, Bair Hugger, TR band, Hotline 3 fluid warmer, Baxter IV pumps, Bedside Dialysis capability
- Electronic Health Record (EHR): Meditech EMR
- Patient Population: Adult
- Shift Options: 7 AM or 7 PM
- Weekly Hours: 36 hours guaranteed
- Weekend Hours: 12 hours every other or every third weekend
- Call Requirements: None
- Float Requirements: Yes
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 1.5 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Additional Information
- Orientation occurs bi-weekly with upcoming start dates available
- Local candidates must live 60 miles or more from the facility to qualify for travel status
- Common patient diagnoses include COPD, Acute Respiratory Failure, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Sepsis, and Shock
- Dress Code: No assigned scrub color; artificial nails are not allowed

Pros
Doctors and most of staff are nice. Surgeries are not hard.
Cons
No staff so a lot of call. You will be on call within your first week or two, even if you don't know how to do anything. Unorganized. The director and supervisor don't know anything about the OR nor are they helpful. New staff are not properly trained. Everything falls on the OR nurse to do. They preop in house patients getting surgery. A couple of OR staff are bullies and lazy, they all think they are the boss. They tell the charge nurse what they are going to do and not going to do. Its like high school all over. Had to leave out of fear for my license.
