Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

Position Details

• Specialty: Labor & Delivery (L&D)
• Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 7p-7:30a)
• Hours per week: 36 guaranteed
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Schedule: Every 3rd weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun) and every 3rd holiday required
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating: May float to MedSurg unit as helping hands when OB patients are not present; able to care for post-surgical patients (e.g., post-appendectomy, post-cholecystectomy) on OB unit

Unit Information

• 6 Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) beds
• No OR suites on unit for C-sections (C-sections performed in main OR)
• No triage or postpartum beds on unit
• Approximately 17 births per month (~220 per year)
• Follows AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios
• Common patient types: labor, delivery, postpartum, mom/baby couplets (>34 weeks gestation); babies under 34 weeks transferred out
• VBACs and TOLACs are not performed
• Well-baby nursery includes care for IV antibiotics, IV dextrose, feeders/growers, and jaundice (bili) babies
• No charge nurse on shift; staffing is 2 nurses per shift
• House supervisor available 24/7 (NRP trained)
• No nurse aides or surgical techs on unit
• Telemetry/monitor techs present; RNs not required to interpret their own strips
• Electronic fetal monitoring system: OBIX

Required Certifications

• Wisconsin or Compact RN license
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• AWHONN certification required; EMF Intermediate and STABLE certifications preferred

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of OB nursing experience required
• Prefer some MedSurg background due to floating responsibilities

Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

• Care for labor & delivery, postpartum, mom/baby couplets, and well-baby nursery patients
• Comfortable managing post-surgical patients on OB unit
• RNs required to titrate drips including oxytocin, magnesium, and insulin
• Anesthesia and OB/neonatologist coverage: in-house during weekdays, on-call after hours and weekends

Orientation & Dress Code

• OB department orientation: 2 shifts
• Scrubs provided
