Job Summary
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily operation and clinical supervision of nursing staff within the Inpatient Behavioral Health Service. This role ensures quality patient care aligned with regulatory standards and evidence-based clinical management, collaborating closely with the Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee unit operations and management in collaboration with the Director, ensuring all disciplines report appropriately.
- Maintain positive, professional relationships with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Implement hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory codes relevant to the department.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary performance improvement activities using appropriate benchmarks.
- Prepare and assemble clinical data and reports required by state and city health departments and other regulatory agencies.
- Monitor admissions and discharges to ensure proper clinical management and discharge planning.
- Gather performance improvement data and ensure compliance with regulatory surveys (e.g., DOH, JCAHO).
- Manage budgeting, supply, and inventory maintenance as needed.
- Provide operational leadership 24/7 and administrative coverage for the Nursing Department when necessary.
- Ensure adherence to nursing philosophy, ethical standards, and scope of service while delivering patient care.
- Participate in continuing education to enhance administrative and clinical skills.
- Implement innovative best practices in patient care.
- Support HCAHPS development efforts with the team and service.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse license in good standing.
- Minimum 5 years as a Registered Nurse.
- At least 5 years of clinical experience in psychiatry.
- Minimum 2 years in a leadership role, preferably managing a psychiatric unit.
- Strong critical thinking, math, and computer skills; ability to work effectively as a team player.
- Knowledge of NY State Department of Health (NYSDOH), JCAHO, and other regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with quality improvement models, continuous quality improvement (CQI), and Root Cause Analysis.
- Demonstrated leadership, budgetary, and administrative skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Competence in applicable clinical specialty and decision-making/problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read, write, see, and hear English proficiently.
- Proficient in electronic health record systems and relevant healthcare and billing systems.
Work Schedule
- Day Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday
- 40 hours per week
- Role is not eligible for overtime

- Experience managing a psychiatric unit is mandatory.
- Commitment to professional growth and maintaining currency with regulatory trends is expected.
