Job Opportunity: Staff Nurse

Location: Johnson City, New York
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Day
Hours: 12 hours/day, 36 hours/week (7am-7pm, every other weekend)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for protecting, promoting, and optimizing health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through diagnosis, treatment, and advocacy. The RN ensures compliance with nursing standards and professional development according to the New York State Nurse Practice Act and nursing ethical codes. The role promotes a caring, patient-centered environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients, serving as primary or accountable nurse as assigned.
  • Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management.
  • Administer medications safely with knowledge of pharmacology.
  • Manage productivity and resource utilization including staffing, time, and supplies.
  • Comply with nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in nursing governance, improvement initiatives, and peer review.
  • Engage in professional development and complete mandatory education.
  • Integrate nursing research and evidence-based practice.
  • Support learning for new employees and students.

Required Qualifications

  • Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
  • Nursing experience ranging from 6 months to 3 years, with a preference for 5+ years of direct experience.
  • Skills in collaboration, communication (verbal and written), critical thinking, organization, planning, problem solving, quality, reliability, safety, and risk management.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Previous clinical nursing experience in acute care or ambulatory settings.
  • Experience in medical-surgical telemetry and oncology (Med Surg MT5 Oncology).
  • Chemotherapy administration experience is highly preferred but not required.
  • Professional certification in a related nursing specialty.
  • Additional relevant certifications such as ACLS, PALS, TNCC as required by the assigned unit.
  • Certification in chemotherapy and immunotherapy (ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate).

  • The position supports a 12-day schedule with 36 hours per week, including every other weekend coverage.
