Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Weekend shifts required; scheduled days will vary based on staffing needs
  • Nights shifts available
  • Shift length: 36 or 48 hours
  • Every other holiday required
  • Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
  • Maximum 40 hours approved for time off
  • Can submit application with Virginia nursing license pending

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia (can submit with license pending)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) / Emergency Room (ER) experience, including experience within the last year
  • At least 1 year of Level 1 trauma experience OR 2 years of Level 2 trauma experience, including some pediatric experience
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Experience working with Level 1 trauma patients
  • Experience working with Level 2 trauma patients

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - must have before start; can submit with pending
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - must have before start; can submit with pending

Required Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Virginia (can submit with license pending)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 60 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
  • HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
  • Education verification through official transcript (photocopy of diploma not accepted)
  • Fingerprinting may be required depending on unit
  • Abuse registry search required for certain units (processed within 45 days prior to start)
  • Drug testing within 2 months of start, updated annually (10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and health screenings including:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD or Qgold acceptable)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer required)
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer (positive required)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or titer required)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination (required during flu season, no exemptions)

Additional Requirements

  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Completion of skills checklist and competency exams as applicable
  • Review and acknowledgment of professional appearance guidelines and compliance documents
  • Pass/fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
  • CPI certification required if assigned to Behavioral Health (non-violent crisis intervention)
