Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Fishersville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Provide direct patient care and education for adult patients who are acutely ill with a variety of medical conditions including cardiac, neurological, renal, infectious disease, and pulmonary issues.
Work on a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with telemetry monitoring.
Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5.

Schedule

Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:30 to 7:15).
Weekend requirement: Every other Saturday; Sundays off.

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Virginia.
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
Minimum 1 year of experience in a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with experience within the last year.
Certifications required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) certification
PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience.

Experience & Eligibility

Local candidates are not accepted; permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility.

Facility & Work Environment

Acute care hospital with 255 staffed beds.
Charting system: Meditech.
Scrub colors: Black or Caribbean blue.
Free parking in unrestricted spaces.

Required Documentation & Compliance

Background checks including:
- 7-year criminal background check (covering SSN trace, counties and states lived/worked in last 7 years, sex offender registry, nationwide check).
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
Physical exam within 1 year of start, renewed annually.
Negative 10-panel drug test (including marijuana) within 30 days of start; zero tolerance for THC.
Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine within past 10 years.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year. TB questionnaire updated annually.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed to start pending second dose.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed to start pending second dose.
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, vaccine series, or declination.
- Annual flu vaccination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) or approved medical/religious exemption. Exemptions require facility-specific forms submitted 2 weeks prior to start.
Fit mask testing (N95 preferred) required annually; option to complete onsite. Medical/religious exemptions for shaving considered case-by-case.
Must complete and acknowledge multiple facility-specific policies and forms prior to start, including confidentiality, standards of appearance, social media, acceptable use, compliance, masking, dress code, and workplace wellness consent.
Two professional references and current application/resume required.
Skills checklist for specialty required and must be updated annually.

Orientation includes review of safety manual and core competency exams.

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of acute care experience who is comfortable working nights on a PCU telemetry unit and meeting comprehensive credentialing and compliance requirements.
