Overview

  • Travel/contract RN position in Roanoke, Virginia
  • Night shift: 3x12s, 6:45 PM–7:15 AM
  • Contract length: 26 weeks
  • Up to 26 weeks available by request

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • NIHSS
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
  • IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Ventilator care for chronic tracheostomy patients
  • Respiratory support: nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
  • Experience with Epic

Schedule and Assignment Details

  • May require every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
  • Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
  • May be called off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Floating required within skillset
  • Accepts first-time travelers
  • Locals accepted
  • Remote telemetry monitoring is used on the unit

Clinical Focus

  • Surgical PCU with stepdown-level care
  • Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and emergency response
  • IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen, CPAP, and BiPAP
  • Medication administration including cardiac drips without titration
  • Rapid response and code team activation
  • Isolation precautions and telemetry settings across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units

Unit Environment

  • Typical ratio: 1:5; staffing goal: 1:4
  • 2 beds for chronic trach patients
  • Bariatric specialty with backup to the trauma unit
  • Equipment includes chest tubes, surgical drains, trach, endo tool, PICC line, and MML
  • IV drips managed include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine

Compliance and Onboarding

  • Drivers license or state ID required within 48 hours of signing
  • E-Verify or attestation required
  • Background check, education verification, and state license verification required
  • Physical exam, fit mask testing, TB screening, immunization documentation, and drug screen required
  • 2 clinical references required
  • Employment application/resume and skills checklist required
