PCU Registered Nurse

Overview

• Travel/contract role in New Brunswick, New Jersey
• 13-week assignment
• Night shift: 3x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New Jersey
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
• BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Care of ventilated patients
• Tracheostomy patient care and management
• IV therapy: access/manage ports, administer blood products, central/PICC/peripheral line care and management, start/maintain IVs, phlebotomy
• BiPAP/CPAP management
• Chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac)
• High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
• Non-invasive airway management
• Feeding tube care and management
• Pre- and post-hemodialysis management
• Renal failure care
• Experience with Epic

Clinical Skills

• IV therapy, including ports, blood products, central/PICC/peripheral line care, IV starts/maintenance, and phlebotomy
• Respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, ventilated patient care, chest tubes, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration, and tracheostomy care/management
• GU/renal care including feeding tube management, pre/post hemodialysis management, and renal failure
• Medication management including heparin protocols, cardiac drips without titration, PCA, procedural sedation monitoring, and IV insulin protocols
• Dysrhythmia interpretation/management, telemetry monitoring, and isolation precautions/PPE

Scheduling and Work Expectations

• Every other weekend required
• Must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays, depending on unit needs
• Must float within skillset without exception

Charting

• EPIC experience required

Additional Notes

• First-time travelers accepted with 2+ years of PCU experience
• Locals accepted
• Navy blue scrubs required
