Unit Details

  • Pediatric cardiac ICU setting
  • Average daily census: 21
  • Beds: 32
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
  • Every other weekend required
  • Unit accepts first-time travelers

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Nebraska
  • Pediatrics CVICU experience within the last year
  • 2 years of Pediatrics CVICU experience
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Cardiac ICU experience
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support issued by American Heart Association

Clinical Experience / Unit Exposure

  • Post-op open hearts
  • Single ventricles
  • Complex cardiac anatomy/physiology
  • Heart transplant
  • Heart failure
  • Invasive cardiac monitoring, including CVP, ART, and RA
  • ECMO and CRRT exposure or experience
  • Vasopressors
  • Cardiac drips
  • Sedation drips

  • Government-issued photo ID

  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check
  • HHS/OIG check
  • Nebraska DHHS Adult & Child Services Registry search
  • Education verification
  • Transcript or diploma accepted in place of education verification
  • NURSYS verification
  • State license verification
  • National tech certification verification
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam
  • Color blind testing
  • Unit competency exam
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit test within 12 months of start
  • Tdap vaccine
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray
  • TB questionnaire if there is a past positive TB result
  • Measles, mumps, and rubella immunity documentation
  • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccine series
  • Varicella immunity documentation
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen including THC
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption, if applicable
  • 2 professional references within 2 years of start
  • Skills checklist updated annually
