Registered Nurse – PCU/Telemetry

Location: Akron, Ohio
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM


Job Summary

  • Provide nursing care on Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Telemetry with at least 2 years of recent experience in this specialty.
  • Must have recent (within last 12 months) experience with Epic electronic health records and phlebotomy.
  • No block scheduling or more than 7 days of requested time off (RTO) allowed during the first two weeks of assignment.
  • Accredited nursing degree required (ACEN or CCNE).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Telemetry nursing experience
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Phlebotomy experience within the last 12 months
  • Experience with Epic electronic health records

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Fit Test for approved N95 masks (3M 1870+, Medline Cone Small, 3M 1860 Reg & Small) within one year of start, updated annually.
  • Pre-employment physical within one year confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Immunizations and titers required prior to start:
    • MMR (titer or 2 vaccines; no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B (titer or complete vaccine series; signed declinations accepted)
    • Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines; no declinations accepted)
    • 2-Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) with negative results; no declinations accepted
  • Annual TB questionnaire (facility-specific form) completed, signed, and dated.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required (2 doses if applicable); medical or religious exemptions reviewed case-by-case.
  • Influenza vaccine required October–April; exemptions require agency approval and documentation.
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years recommended (no declinations accepted).

Onboarding and Testing

  • Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required annually, including:
    • Telemetry and EKG exams (passing score ≥80%)
    • Core competencies covering HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics within 90 days of start.
  • Background checks and verifications required within 90 days of start:
    • FCRA-compliant 7-year criminal background check (no instant checks)
    • OIG exclusion search
    • EPLS (SAM.gov) search
    • Education verification
    • Social Security card or number confirmation

Additional Notes

  • Must provide and carry valid government-issued photo ID.
  • RN submission packet checklist must be completed and included with application.
  • No prior travel experience explicitly required for this assignment.
