Job Opportunity: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Specialty
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Focus: Pediatric Behavioral Health and Medical-Surgical (Med Surg)
- Pediatrics experience preferred
- Med Surg experience required
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of specialty experience (Behavioral/Psychiatric and Med Surg)
- Prior travel experience required: 1 year of travel experience is mandatory
Licensure & Certifications
- Must be licensed to work in Missouri
- Required Certifications:
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Additional certifications that may be required or preferred:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – AHA 8th Edition Advanced Certification (as required)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – required for ER/Peds ER
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – required for Behavioral Health Techs and RNs going to Crisis Center
Patient Ratios
- 1:3 or 1:4, consistent with other inpatient units
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required on person during hours of service
- Background check within 3 months of start, including county and statewide searches for Missouri and Kansas
- E-Verify or attestation proof required
- Residency declaration form if working on a compact license
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start
- Health documents including:
- Physical exam (initial and annual)
- Immunizations and titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray as per facility requirements
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (no declinations accepted)
- Facility-specific forms such as health form, TB questionnaire, medication review packet, and parking permit request
- References: 2 supervisory references or performance evaluations within 1 year of start
- Skills checklist and competency exams related to pediatric care
Additional Notes
- Pediatric pharmacology competency exam required
- Color blindness testing required for clinical candidates
- Pass/fail medication and EKG testing during orientation (100% passing required for medication test)
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement and pass/fail testing acknowledgement required for RNs
- Facility may require additional core competency testing or HIPAA forms for subcontractors
This position is ideal for RNs with pediatric behavioral health and med surg experience who have prior travel contract experience and hold the necessary certifications and licensure to practice in Missouri.
