ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Charlottesville, Virginia
Position Overview
- Role: Registered Nurse (ICU)
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
- Shift: Nights, 4 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Float Pool assignment covering various ICU and intermediate care units including:
- Medical ICU
- Thoracic Cardiovascular ICU
- Coronary Care Unit
- Surgical Trauma ICU (Level 1)
- Neuro & Neurosurgery ICU and Intermediate Unit
- Critical Care and Intermediate Care Special Pathogens Unit (COVID)
- Thoracic Cardiovascular Intermediate Unit
- Surgical Trauma Intermediate Unit
- ED Boarders (patients admitted but boarding in ED prior to room assignment)
- Scheduling: Every other weekend and every other holiday; time off restrictions apply for Memorial Day and 4th of July; block scheduling not guaranteed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Minimum of 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, and other standard screenings
- Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- Tdap vaccination (no exemptions)
- 2-step TB test or equivalent (Qgold acceptable; Tspot not accepted)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no declinations)
- Hepatitis B: Positive surface antibody titer required or antigen titer if antibody is low/negative
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required (declination accepted but must be documented)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions)
- Physical exam within 12 months attesting ability to meet physical demands of the position
- Professional appearance guidelines acknowledgment
- Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment during orientation (required for adult inpatient RN positions)
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment application and skills checklist as applicable
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting required for Behavioral Health candidates and some units; processed through Virginia State Police system
- Some units may require additional certifications (e.g., Trauma Nursing Core Course, Pediatric certifications) but not specified as mandatory here
- Time off approvals limited; 40 hours can be approved but not during certain holidays
- Candidate must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service
