Job Opportunity: Oncology Clinic Registered Nurse

Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks

Work Schedule

• Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
• 40 hours per week, no weekends

Patient Population & Setting

• Adult patients
• Work settings include Infusion Center, Inpatient Oncology, Outpatient Oncology

Patient Ratio

• Nurse to patient ratio: 1:6

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in oncology or infusion/chemotherapy clinic settings
• Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment
• Candidates with 1.5 to less than 2 years of steady, continuous experience in Maryland may be considered
• Experience with Cerner electronic health record system required

Clinical Skills

• Chemotherapy administration and certification required
• Body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
• IV push administration of chemotherapy
• Administration of coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals
• Blood and blood product administration
• Care and management of ports and PICC lines
• Infusion pump management
• Intravenous hydration and multivitamin administration
• Starting IVs
• Antibiotic medication administration

Certifications & Licenses

• Registered Nurse license valid in Maryland required
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC) required
• Chemotherapy certification required
• Flu vaccine required (seasonal vaccination or approved exemption)

Additional Requirements

• Valid driver’s license required if driving is an essential job function
• Criminal background check within 90 days of start, including multi-state and federal searches
• Drug screening within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, with additional requirements if history of TB
• Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
• N95 fit test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)
• Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start
• Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
• Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information
• Medication and pharmacology competency exams required prior to start and updated every 3 years (minimum 80% passing score)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required annually with specific scoring criteria for lethal rhythms (applicable to certain units)

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of Hematology/Oncology nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience in inpatient, outpatient, and clinic oncology settings
• At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment completed
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Chemotherapy certification (CHEMO Cert) required
• Experience with Cerner electronic health record system
