Registered Nurse – Pediatric Transplant (Travel/Contract)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Shift: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (5x8 hours)
Holiday Coverage: As needed

Job Description

• Provide nursing care in an outpatient clinic specializing in pediatric pre/post liver transplant, small bowel transplant, and hepatology.
• Support patient care coordination including labs, imaging, phone triage, and communication with the multidisciplinary team.
• This assignment covers a 6-month maternity leave.
• Local rate applies within 60 miles of the facility.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in District of Columbia.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum 2 years of transplant experience, including transplant experience within the last year.
• Experience working with pediatric patients.
• Med Surg and Telemetry nursing experience.
• Completion of at least one prior travel nursing assignment.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Certifications & Competencies

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required for pediatrics (AHA or ARC).
• Additional certifications may be required based on unit description (e.g., ACLS, NRP, TNCC) but are not explicitly stated for this role.
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam and other competency exams required prior to start and updated regularly.

Health & Background Requirements

• Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease.
• Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon, or T-spot) within 1 year; if history of TB, additional documentation required.
• Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana).
• Required immunizations or proof of immunity:

  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
  • Varicella (2 VZV vaccines or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
  • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years preferred
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept–March).

Background Checks & Documentation

• Criminal background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
• Education verification for highest degree required by position.
• I9/E-Verify attestation required prior to start.
• References: Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years.
• Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information.

Additional Information

• Valid driver’s license required if driving on behalf of the employer is an essential job function.
• Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed prior to start.
• Annual safety manual acknowledgment required.
• N95 fit test within 9 months of start and updated annually (client may complete on-site if needed).
