Job Opportunity: Anesthesia Tech
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 11:30 AM – 8:00 PM (5 days/week, 40 hours/week)
Job Description
- No direct patient care responsibilities.
- Responsible for bringing supplies into the room.
- Must have knowledge of surgical procedures and anesthesia equipment.
- Work setting includes Ambulatory Operating Room (OR) and Operating Room.
- Preferred experience with Pediatrics.
- Assist anesthesia providers in critical situations.
- Support includes anesthesia machine setup, troubleshooting, and patient transport.
- Involved in room setup, turnover, and time-out process for procedures.
- Familiarity with modes of anesthesia: General, Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC), and Regional.
- Previous charge experience preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an Anesthesia Technician.
- Experience as an Anesthesia Technician within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience working in an outpatient setting.
Skills & Knowledge Required
- Knowledge of:
- Endotracheal tubes and intubation techniques (including emergency intubations and intubating LMA)
- IV insertion and management of IV/arterial line catheters
- Patient positioning and transport within the OR setting
- Anesthesia machine operation and troubleshooting
- Breathing circuits and standard monitors
- Use of Glidescope/video laryngoscope and laryngoscope blades
- Rapid infuser and IV pumps
- Operating room safety protocols including electrical, fire, and infection control
- Room setup for first case and room turnover procedures
- Time out process for surgical procedures
- Arterial, central venous, and vascular access assistance
Additional Information
- Local candidates within 60 miles preferred.
- Ratio of techs to anesthesia providers approximately 1:4.
- Scrub color: Blue.
- Prior travel experience is required (must have completed at least one prior travel contract).
- Must complete all required facility-specific documentation and training modules before start date.
- Drug screen excludes marijuana but includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, methadone, cocaine metabolites, opiates, oxycodones, phencyclidine, and propoxyphene.
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (September 23 – March 31).
This position is ideal for experienced anesthesia technicians seeking a travel contract role in a surgical services environment with a focus on anesthesia support in the OR.
