Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (Night Shift)
Location: Utica, New York

Job Overview
- Work in a brand new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department (ED) facility with a 68-bed unit including super track, psych, trauma, and pediatrics.
- Level 3 trauma center with comprehensive stroke and regional cardiac centers.
- High acuity unit with patient ratios striving for 1:4 or 1:5, subject to change based on staffing and census.
- All private rooms; occasional hallway beds and results pending areas.
- Support staff includes Patient Care Technicians (PCT), First-look RN, Triage RN, Charge RN, Secretary, Respiratory Therapist, Lab, and Critical Response RN.
- Drip medications include TNK, Cleviprex, and Level 1 infusion for Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP).
- Orientation consists of half-day clinical orientation and half-day shadowing on the unit.
- Parking available at no charge.
Schedule
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:30 to 7:00).
- Every other weekend required.
- No guaranteed block schedule.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York.
- Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course).
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
- Prior travel nursing experience required.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Emergency contact form prior to start.
- Background checks including 7-year search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, and Florida Education Audit Confirmation (for RN).
- Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York specific, annual).
- Competency exams as applicable: medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG (expires every 3 years), color blindness testing.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Fit mask test within 1 year and updated annually (specific mask types required).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (specific requirements for past positives).
- Immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Varicella (chickenpox)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season.
- Pneumonia vaccination or declination.
- 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start.
- References: 2 professional references for travel/allied/per diem acute care or 1 for per diem non-acute care (within 3 years).
- Annual skills checklist.

- ED patient ratios may fluctuate due to volume and acuity.
- Facility requires completion of online learning modules prior to first shift.
- Facility-specific documents such as photo for badge, job description acknowledgment, and Omnicell form must be completed.
- Pneumococcal declination forms required if vaccine is declined.
