Medical Lab Scientist - Travel/Contract
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Required to float between multiple hospital locations.
- Initial training and orientation on day shift for the first two weeks before transitioning to contracted night shift.
- Night shift schedule: 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (21:00 - 7:30).
- Every other weekend required, plus 1 holiday if it falls within the contract period.
- Blood Bank unit performs routine and specialized compatibility testing and prepares blood components for transfusion, supporting pediatric and adult patients.
- Staffing workload: approximately 15,000 samples.
Required Qualifications
- Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year.
- Certification: ASCP or ACP (Medical Lab Scientist certification required; no MLTs accepted).
- Proficient in Crossmatch (Immediate Spin/IgG) and Electronic Crossmatch.
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy required).
- Background checks including 7-year history, education verification, and various federal/state screenings required.
- Current Physical Exam (within 12 months).
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
- Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required.
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31); no declinations accepted.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (including Amphetamines, Marijuana, Cocaine, Opiates, PCP).
- Competency exams and skills checklist required annually.
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years; references must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above.
- Employment application covering 7 years with explanations for gaps of 30 days or more.
Additional Information
- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are welcome.
- Indiana RN license restrictions do not apply to this role.
- Orientation and compliance paperwork must be completed prior to start.
- Facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements are mandatory.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized Blood Bank laboratory environment with a focus on pediatric and adult transfusion support, requiring strong technical skills and certifications in medical laboratory science.
