Job Summary
Seeking Pediatric RNs with recent pediatric experience to work in general pediatrics, pediatric med-surg, and pediatric oncology units. The role requires specialized skills in chemotherapy administration and pediatric patient care.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 1.5 years recent pediatric nursing experience
- License: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
- Certifications:
- Current AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Chemotherapy certification issued by the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) is highly preferred
- Skills & Experience:
- Chemotherapy/Oncology experience required
- Breastfeeding support, feedings, IV therapy/phlebotomy skills
- Management of seizure disorders
- Administration and monitoring of chemotherapy (monitoring only, not initiation)
- Oxygen delivery systems
- Renal/genitourinary skills
- Preferred Skills:
- Endocrine/metabolic skills
- Placement of oral/nasogastric tubes
- Neuromuscular disease care
- Body fluid handling post chemotherapy
- References:
- 2 clinical references (within last 2 years)
- At least 1 leadership/managerial reference from assignments within the last year
Shift Details
- Shift Time: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
- Maximum 2 shifts per week
- Must commit to working 4 shifts per month at the assigned site
Orientation
- 1 day computer training at home
- 2nd day on-unit starting at 7:00 AM

- Cancellation policy: 3 instances of last-minute shift cancellations (within 24-48 hours) subject to review and possible termination
Required Compliance & Documentation
- Background Checks: Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches
- Health Requirements:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
- Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Drug screen within 30 days of start
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption annually
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Fit Testing: On-site fit testing required for respirator use; must be clean-shaven unless approved accommodation
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (as applicable)
- IV Therapy/Infusion exam
- Pass/Fail Testing: Pharmacology and basic EKG exams required with remediation policy in place
- Other Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) not required for this pediatric oncology RN role
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification required if working in ER, Peds ER, or Behavioral Health (not specified as required here)
- Documentation: Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history, skills checklist updated annually
