Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts, day or night (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours guaranteed
Weekend/Holiday: Every other weekend and holiday required

Unit Overview

• Post Surgical Care Unit (PSCU) caring for pre- and post-surgical adult and geriatric patients
• 40-bed inpatient unit with a fast-paced environment
• Average daily admissions: 10-15 (peak during day/PM shifts)
• Occupancy: 90-95% during the week
• Average length of stay: 2-3 days (except joint patients)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio:

  • Day/PM shifts: 1:4 or 1:5
  • Night shifts: 1:5 to 1:7
• Float requirement: Must float to all inpatient units as needed
• Ability to multitask, prioritize patient care based on acuity, and work collaboratively as a team is essential

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Wisconsin
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Experience working with Level 2 Trauma patients
• One completed travel nursing assignment
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Experience with Epic EMR system

Equipment and Technology

• Epic EMR system
• Rovers for medication scanning
• Alaris infusion pumps

Additional Information

• Contractors must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Low census hours available in 4-hour increments; these are not considered on-call hours
• Scrub color: any color allowed
• Flu and COVID vaccination policy: During flu season, travelers who decline vaccinations must wear a mask at all times per facility policy; non-compliance may result in corrective action
• Orientation week hours may vary; guaranteed hours apply after orientation except during holidays when the unit is closed
