Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (L&D)

Unit Details

• Unit Type: Labor & Delivery / Postpartum / Mother-Baby
• L&D Beds: 22
• OR Suites for C-Sections: 2
• Triage Beds: 7
• Postpartum Beds: 34
• Average Births: 8-12 per day, ~250 per month, ~2900 per year
• Level III NICU on site; Neonatologist not in-house 24/7, APPs available 24/7
• Anesthesia available 24/7
• RN responsible for reading fetal monitor strips (GE Corometrics EFM system)
• Surgical techs available on unit
• No respiratory therapy equipment on L&D

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license
• Minimum 2 years of experience in high-risk Labor & Delivery
• Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Must be able to circulate during C-Sections in the OR
• Ability to titrate drips including oxytocin and magnesium sulfate

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Self-scheduling process, but travelers expected to fill in as needed
• Weekend and holiday work required
• Call requirement: 18 hours of call every 6 weeks, scheduled in 6-hour increments
• Floating required to postpartum unit
• Orientation: 1 shift unit-specific orientation; clinicians must be in-state for orientation week even if some modules are remote
• Hospital-provided scrubs

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Labor and delivery patients including C-sections
• High-risk conditions such as pre-eclampsia, infants of diabetic mothers (IDM), and various antepartum complications

Additional Notes

• Must have a valid driver’s license and be within a 60-mile radius for travel
• Charge nurse does not take patient assignments
• Nurses are required to read their own fetal monitor strips
• Follow AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios as much as possible
