Surgery - General (Major) RN

Location: Peoria, Illinois Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Days, 12-hour shifts Hours: 36 or 40 hours per week, based on contract

Department

• Unit: OR - Surgery General (Major)
• Suites: 14 for general surgery (28 total)
• Average cases per day: 20-40 for general surgery
• Common cases: Lap chole, lap colon, lap appy, cysto, DaVinci robotic cases, hysterectomy, vascular, ENT, urology

Required Qualifications

• BLS (AHA) certification
• Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the licensing application has been initiated
• 2 years of general, gyn, and urology experience
• Experience in general surgery, urology, GYN, and ENT

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in facilities and ORs similar in size within the last 2 years

Schedule and Call

• Schedule: 7:00-17:30 or 12:30-23:00 shifts; block scheduling determined by need, no self-scheduling
• Call: 1 per week (call hours 15:30-23:00, 17:30-23:00, 19:30-23:00, or 23:00-07:00), with a 30-minute response time
• Sleep policy: If working more than 4 hours after 23:00, 8 hours off from clock-out
• Weekends: Every other or every third weekend, full weekend hours with a call shift assigned
• Call-off policy: 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty or need to pay for the shift

Orientation

• 12 non-billable hours; guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
• Unit-specific orientation up to one week if needed, plus hospital-wide orientation

Role Details

• Works with the surgical technologist in the OR
• A charge nurse is available on each shift to help with cases
• Scrubbing is not required for RNs
• Floating possible to other surgery teams or SPD if qualified
• Hospital-provided scrubs
• Local placements accepted (within a 50-mile radius)
