Location: Reno, Nevada
Employment Type: Travel


Position Overview

  • Role: Registered Nurse
  • Department: Oncology/Cancer Unit (27-bed unit)
  • Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
  • Weekly Hours: 36 guaranteed
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Requirements

  • Licensure: Nevada RN license required prior to start
  • Certifications: BLS required; ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification preferred
  • Experience: Minimum 2+ years RN experience, including at least 1 year in Oncology
  • Chemotherapy certification no longer required but preferred

Unit Description

  • Patient Population: Oncology patients receiving chemotherapy and/or admitted for disease complications; also includes medical-surgical patients
  • Treatments Administered: Various chemotherapies and immunotherapies such as HD Methotrexate, induction/consolidation for Leukemias, Rituximab, R-EPOCH, R-CHOP
  • Equipment: Each room has a computer; unit supports remote telemetry monitoring
  • Telemetry Testing and ACLS certification are not required

Job Duties & Expectations

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and their families/caregivers
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care based on nursing process
  • Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals as needed
  • Intensive mental effort required for safe patient care and decision-making
  • May be required to float within competency level
  • Must pick up one additional shift during the schedule period
  • Schedule may include weekends, holidays, and some call shifts
  • Holiday Requirement: Work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Eve + Day = 1 holiday)
  • Employer may call off shifts (full or partial) with 48 hours notice for low census during the 13-week contract

  • Level II Trauma Center with Stroke accreditation
  • 800 inpatient beds, serving a 500-mile radius
  • Extremely busy, fast-paced environment with patient volume and pace comparable to a Level I trauma center
  • Advanced technology and specialized services including:
    • Accredited heart failure center
    • Institute for Neurosciences
    • Low-dose CT imaging
    • Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System
    • PET/CT scanner, Biplane Angiography, 3T MRI
