Job Opportunity: Rad Therapist - Radiology
Location: Winchester, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Provide daily care for cancer patients by accurately interpreting and delivering radiation treatments as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
- May perform simulations and provide clinical instruction for radiation therapy students.
- Assist in Brachytherapy procedures and treatment planning, including tumor localization and dosimetry.
- Triage sick patients to nursing for evaluation.
Responsibilities
- Verify prescription, diagnosis, patient ID, and schedule patients.
- Explain procedures for pre-treatment and post-treatment; answer patient questions and provide reassurance.
- Collaborate with physicists, dosimetrists, physicians, nurses, and social workers.
- Prepare treatment rooms and equipment according to prescription and safety protocols.
- Take and check images of treated areas; maintain patient markings and update as directed.
- Maintain visual and audible contact with patients during treatments.
- Reinforce physician and dietitian recommendations regarding treatment reactions and care.
- Observe patients for unusual reactions and assist in emergency treatment if needed.
- Follow radiation safety measures for patients and staff.
- Accurately document treatment doses and billing charges daily.
- Set up IMRT and 3-D patients properly in CT; create immobilization devices for 2-D, 3-D, and IMRT patients.
- Document all pertinent information for dosimetry calculations.
Work Schedule
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (5 days a week, 8-hour shifts)
- No weekend or on-call requirements
Required Certifications and Licenses
- BLS (AHA only)
- ARRT Certification
- Virginia State License (or status of license)
- Virginia Temporary License acceptable if pending full license
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Radiation Therapist
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

- Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
- EMR system used: EPIC
- Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs; adherence to facility dress code policy required
