Registered Nurse - Telemetry

Location: Reno, Nevada
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Provide comprehensive nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients on a 38-bed telemetry unit. Responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, coordinating with other healthcare professionals as needed. The role requires delivering optimal patient outcomes throughout the episode of care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.


Unit & Patient Population

  • 38-bed telemetry unit with RN, CNA, Critical Care Techs, and Advanced Care Techs support
  • Patient ratios typically range from 1:4 to 1:6 based on acuity
  • Patient conditions include CHF, alcohol withdrawal, NSTEMI, sepsis, dysrhythmias, pneumonia, COPD, COVID-19, post-procedure care (pacemakers, ablations, cath lab), and downgraded ICU patients
  • Medications include non-titratable cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Lasix, Nitro
  • May float to ICU telemetry/medical assignments, medical-surgical units, or other hospital locations as needed

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
  • 36 guaranteed hours weekly
  • Call is not required
  • May be required to work major holidays and pick up one additional shift every 4 weeks
  • Schedule may include weekends and holidays
  • Float assignments based on competency and organizational needs
  • Facility reserves the right to cancel shifts with 48 hours’ notice for low census

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Nevada
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
  • Certifications required:
    • BLS issued by the American Heart Association
    • ACLS issued by the American Heart Association
    • NIHSS

Work Environment

  • Level II trauma center with a high volume and fast-paced setting comparable to a Level I trauma center
  • 800 inpatient beds, 80 ER beds, serving a 500-mile radius
  • Stroke accredited facility

Additional Information

  • The unit is supported by ancillary staff including Rapid Response Team, phlebotomists, EKG technicians, and respiratory therapists
  • Advanced care techs assist with transport, admissions, discharges, IV and Foley insertions, ADLs, and limited medication administration

This position demands strong clinical judgment, continuous mental effort, and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team to provide safe, high-quality patient care.
