Job Summary
Provide occupational therapy services primarily in an outpatient setting with occasional float to acute care. Responsibilities include patient evaluation, treatment planning, intervention, and evaluation in accordance with occupational therapy standards and physician orders. Supervise Occupational Therapist Assistants, Home Health Aides, and students as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate patient function using formal and informal testing to assess skeletal, neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, developmental, social, and cognitive status.
- Develop and update goal-specific treatment plans based on assessment data and patient tolerance.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers on pathology, prognosis, treatment rationale, and home programs.
- Provide treatment interventions to facilitate or restore optimal functioning.
- Document patient responses, treatment changes, and complete daily documentation for billing and regulatory compliance.
- Recommend and assist in securing adaptive/supportive equipment.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case management.
- Promote occupational therapy services within the community and support program development.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Medium physical demand level: occasional lifting/carrying 21-50 lbs, frequent lifting/carrying 20 lbs, constant handling of 10 lbs.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk for long periods; frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, crouching.
- Exposure to stressful situations including trauma, grief, and death.
- Use of personal protective equipment and adherence to bloodborne pathogen and TB testing protocols.
- Good vision, hearing, dexterity, and ability to perform repetitive movements.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, and maintain regular attendance.
Required Qualifications
- License: OTR (Occupational Therapist Registered) [Required]
- Certification: NBCOT (National Board Certification in Occupational Therapy) [Required]
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy [Required]
- BLS (Basic Life Support): Highly preferred within 1 month of hire or transfer
- More than 1 year of occupational therapy experience preferred but new graduates will be considered.
- Outpatient experience preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate and teach treatment routines to professional and non-professional individuals.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective verbal and written communication in English.
- Ability to work independently with problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
- Completion of OSHA training annually as required.
- Ability to work in environments with potential exposure to communicable diseases.
- AOTA membership preferred.
