Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in District of Columbia
- Oncology (2 years of experience)
- Oncology experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Nurse Navigator experience
Preferred Experience
- Nurse navigator or nurse coordinator experience
- Oncology experience
- Radiation Oncology experience
Key Clinical Skills
- Port care and management
- Central line / implanted line care
- IV starts
- Telephone triage
- Radiation therapy support, including teletherapy
- Wound care
- Assessment and management of common oncology-related symptoms and complications, including:
- Acute tumor lysis syndrome
- Anaphylaxis
- Extravasation injury
- Hemorrhage
- Sepsis
- Spinal cord compression
- Neutropenic precautions
- Altered mental status
- Constipation/diarrhea
- Dysphagia
- Edema
- Nausea/vomiting
- Neuropathy
- Tracheostomy care/management
Patient Population / Setting
- Primarily cancer patients
- Radiation treatment center
- Patients typically report Monday through Friday for radiation therapy
Core Duties
- Provide nursing care as needed to radiation patients
- Educate patients
- Perform skincare and wound care
- Assess radiation toxicity
- Address social needs
- Coordinate with physicians, residents, or emergency services when symptoms are concerning
Charting / Documentation
- Cerner
Additional Notes
- Flu vaccine required for all employees
- Valid driver’s license required if driving is an essential function of the job
