Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Surgical Services (Operating Room)
- Shift: 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts (6:30 AM – 5:00 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: As needed, including 1 weekend shift (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM on Saturday or Sunday)
- On-call Requirement: Yes, up to 4 call shifts per month (end of shift at 7 AM)
- Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including between like units or sister facilities
- Trauma Level: Level 1 Trauma Center
- Facility Type: Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet Hospital
- Total Staffed Beds: 820
- Charting System: EPIC
- Scrub Color: Provided
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist with at least 1 year of experience
- Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
- Certification: NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Background Check: Comprehensive 7-year history including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, and state-specific searches
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed
- Licensure: Active, unencumbered SC Surgical Technologist license or equivalent primary source verification
- Fit Testing: N95 mask fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
- Drug Screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Immunizations & Health:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if prior positive
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31), medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required
- Competency Exams: Required as applicable, including medication/pharmacology and OR competency exams
- Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
- Radiation Badge Process: Must be obtained before starting floor work; may take 5-7 days to arrive
- Orientation: Completion of facility-specific modules and first day instructions mandatory before starting
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with solid light background, business casual attire, no posing or side views
Work Environment & Expectations
- Busy, dynamic, nurse-driven Main OR with 21 OR suites covering all surgical specialties
- Team composition: 75% Registered Nurses, 25% Certified Surgical Technologists
- Magnet designated department with cutting-edge technology
- May be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June–November, peak Aug–Sept)
- Local radius: 60 miles; local candidates considered on a case-by-case basis

- First-time travel Surgical Technologists are accepted
- Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks; called off hours can be broken down to equal 1 shift
- Block scheduling possible with manager approval depending on unit needs
