Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Tucson, Arizona
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Labor and Delivery)
- Location: Tucson, Arizona
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend required
- Float Requirement: Must be willing to float to a sister facility (rare, lower acuity)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Arizona
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Current certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring or AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring
- MAB (Medication Administration by Blood)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Orientation
- Upcoming orientation dates available prior to assignment start
Job Requirements and Expectations
- Float to sister facility as needed (rare occurrence)
- Coverage every other weekend
- Must not be a local hire (no locals accepted)
- Pass/Fail testing on EKG and medication competency may be required depending on unit assignment
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required (passing score 80%+)
- HIPAA competency required (annual update, passing score 80%+)
Background and Compliance
- Background checks must be completed within 30 days of assignment start, including:
- 7-year history including Pima County, AZ
- National Sex Offender Search
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Drug testing (12-panel) must be completed within 30 days of start and within 72 hours of booking
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by physician, NP, or PA
- Fit testing for N95 mask within 1 year of start (PAPR allowed onsite)
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (full vaccine within 10 years; declinations allowed except for select units)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 3 months of start (annual renewal required)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer; no declinations)
- Hepatitis B (proof of 3 vaccines or positive titer; declinations allowed with signed form)
- Varicella (proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer; no declinations)
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30) or approved medical/religious exemption with facility-specific form
Documentation and History
- Two professional references from employment within the last 3 years required (one must be supervisory)
- Employment application with last 7 years of work history; gaps over 30 days must be explained
- Annual skills checklist update required
- Facility-specific job description and orientation sign-off required
This position is ideal for experienced Labor & Delivery RNs who hold the required certifications and are comfortable working night shifts with occasional floating to a lower acuity sister facility. Compliance with all health, background, and competency requirements is mandatory.
