Job Opportunity: IMC Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Nights, 3 or 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work in Intermediate Care (IMC) / General onsite telemetry unit
  • Average daily census: 38 patients
  • Floating to like units within scope as needed
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend
  • Block scheduling requests can be discussed with manager
  • Locals accepted with no radius restrictions
  • No on-call required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Minimum 2 years of Stepdown experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • Experience with Cerner electronic health record system
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Post cardiac angiogram, MI, cardiac catheterization, and cardiac surgery care
  • Sheath removal and TR band management
  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Pre/post hemodialysis management

Clinical Skills & Experience Requirements

  • Work Setting Experience: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry, Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown units
  • Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Telemetry monitoring (unit-based and remote)
  • Cardiovascular Care:
    • Post cardiac angiogram, MI, cardiac catheterization, cardiac surgery
    • Sheath removal, TR band care
  • Gastrointestinal Care: Feeding tube care and management
  • Renal Care: Pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care
  • IV Therapy & Phlebotomy:
    • Accessing ports, arterial line management
    • Blood product administration
    • Central, peripheral, and PICC line care and management
    • Starting IVs
  • Medication Management:
    • Heparin protocols
    • Managing and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
    • PCA management
  • Neurological/Psychiatric Care: Stroke (CVA) care
  • Surgical Care: Experience with surgical drains
  • Respiratory Care:
    • Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
    • External CPAP/BIPAP
    • High flow nasal cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
    • Non-invasive airway management
  • Professional Skills:
    • Isolation precautions
    • Wound care including wound vac

  • Acute care hospital, Level I trauma center
  • Magnet designated facility
  • Total staffed beds: 562
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Parking permit required, no cost

Additional Requirements & Notes

  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: ideally no more than 5 days
  • Guaranteed hours subject to client call-offs (up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay)
  • Scrub color: any solid color
  • Badge photo required before start (color photo, mid-shoulders up, plain background)
  • Completion of computer-based learning modules required before orientation
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
  • Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year required
  • Drug screening (9-panel) required within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations or documented immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (vaccine series or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
  • Background checks required within 30 days of start, including criminal, sex offender, and state-specific searches
  • Two professional references required
  • Competency exam required for all clinical candidates
