Hospice Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Bastrop, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide skilled nursing care to hospice patients in their homes.
- Responsible for patient admissions, comprehensive assessments, interdisciplinary care coordination, and plan of care development and oversight.
- Charting required using Homecare Homebase (HCHB) and OASIS systems, completed while at patient homes.
- Average caseload: 4-6 patients per day.
- Must participate in on-call rotation (one night per week) and be available for weekends as needed.
- Must be willing to travel up to 50 miles from home base to see patients.
Schedule & Hours
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Day shift, 5x8 hours)
- 40 hours per week, with 32 hours guaranteed.
- Overtime requires pre-approval.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
- Minimum 1 year of hospice nursing experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Certifications & Compliance Requirements
- BLS required; ACLS and PALS certifications recommended or as applicable.
- Background check within 1 year, including seven years of residency/work history, SS trace, county searches, sex offender registry, FACIS Level 1, and state driver’s record.
- Annual EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Physical exam within 12 months confirming good health.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes; annual TB questionnaire.
- Immunization or titer proof for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hepatitis B declination.
- 9-panel drug screen within 12 months.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
- Annual skills checklist and competency exams including medication/pharmacology and infection control/bloodborne pathogens.
- Valid driver’s license and auto insurance required.
Additional Information
- Dress code: Scrubs, any color.
- Must be willing to sign job description and orientation safety manual acknowledgment prior to start.
- Local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius.
- Mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rates.
Patient Population & Care Environment
- Hospice patients in home settings, primarily geriatric population.
- Care includes in-home patient care, interdisciplinary coordination, and plan of care oversight.
This position is suitable for first-time travel nurses.
