Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Description

• Position is for an LDRP nurse working between Labor & Delivery (L&D) and Mother-Baby units.
• Must have experience in both L&D and Mother-Baby care.
• Must be comfortable working with the prison population.
• Orientation includes two 8-hour shifts followed by two 12-hour shifts with the department.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee with primary source verification (NURSYS verification required).
• Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience within the last year.
• Experience working with Maternal-Fetal patients and Maternal-Newborn care.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
• Current certifications (must be valid and not expiring within 90 days of assignment start):

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association certified
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association certified
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), Calm Every Storm, or Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) accepted
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – American Academy of Pediatrics certified
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) – AWHONN Advanced or Intermediate required for Labor and Delivery

Experience

• 1 year of specialty experience required.
• Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers and local nurses are accepted equally.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID) must be carried during work hours.
• Social Security Number or card required for system access.
• Background checks: 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG checks required and must be current.
• Physical exam and fit mask test (3M 1860s, 1860, or 1870+) must be completed after signing and updated annually.
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tdap (one adult dose)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) titers or vaccinations
  • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
  • Varicella titer or vaccinations
• Drug screening: 9-panel drug test including marijuana, completed annually.
• Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required year-round.
• COVID-19 vaccination required prior to start; medical/religious exemptions considered.

Orientation and Training

• Must review and bring copies of orientation guidebook, travel packet, and other facility-specific documents to orientation.
• Completion of assigned LMS education modules (15-18 modules depending on unit) is mandatory and due 5 days prior to start.
• Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and pass/fail testing (EKG/medication) required as applicable.
• Must sign confidentiality agreement, compliance acknowledgment, and other required forms prior to start.

Additional Notes

• Candidates must be comfortable with floating between L&D and Mother-Baby units.
• Photo for badge must be passport-style with a solid white background, no hats, masks, or sunglasses.
• References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required.
• Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the facility for over 1 year.
