Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (1800-0630)
Hours per Week: 36 hours

Job Summary

Seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with a minimum of 1 year of experience. First-time travel therapists are welcome to apply. The role requires working every other weekend and being on-call as needed. Floating within scope to meet facility needs is expected.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Illinois (no pending licenses accepted)
• Minimum 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
• BLS certification required
• Experience working with adult patients
• Experience with Cerner electronic charting system
• Nebulizer experience including T-Piece devices
• Oxygen therapy skills including T-Piece
• Ventilator management skills including BiPAP and CPAP

Work Schedule & Conditions

• Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts (1800-0630) or 4x12-hour shifts (schedule to be discussed)
• Will work every other weekend
• On-call required as needed
• Floating within scope may be required
• Open to block scheduling requests (discuss with manager)
• Local candidates accepted without radius restrictions
• Ideally no more than 5 days of requested time off (RTO) during assignment
• Parking permit required but no cost for parking

Required Pre-Employment & Ongoing Compliance Documents

• Valid/current US Driver’s License or US ID
• Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, and other required searches
• Primary source verification of state license and certifications
• Competency exam required for clinical candidates
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by an MD, NP, PA, or equivalent, confirming good physical and mental health and ability to perform job functions
• Fit mask test required (3M 1860 small/regular, 1870, or 1870+ masks accepted)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• TB questionnaire updated annually
• Immunization or documented immunity for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
• Photo for badge within one week of contract signing
• Completion of facility-specific orientation safety manual and computer-based learning modules before orientation
• Required state-specific criminal and offender registry searches within 30 days of start (Illinois-specific)
• References: Two professional references required for clinical travel candidates

Additional Notes

• Candidates must be prepared for possible shift cancellations or on-call assignments in lieu of canceled shifts.
• Facility accommodates latex allergies.
• Fingerprinting must be completed in Illinois 3 business days prior to start for clinical candidates without an IL license.
• Teaching hospital and trauma center experience preferred but not mandatory.
