Medical Surgical - Neuro Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: 4S MedSurg - Neuro (26 beds)
- Patient population includes: CVA, TBI, epidural and subdural hematoma, seizure disorder, spinal cord injuries, and epilepsy monitoring
- Patient ratio: 1:4-5
- Shift: Night shift, 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM), weekdays, every other weekend required
- Float within scope to meet facility needs
- Orientation held every other week on Thursday (2-day orientation: Thursday and Friday)
- Charting system: Cerner
- Scrub color: Royal Blue or White (RN)
- Parking: Free for travelers
- Facility type: Short Term Acute Care, Level 1 Trauma Center, Major teaching hospital
- 36 hours guaranteed per week
- Open to accommodating blocked schedule requests
- 100-mile radius rule for travel
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in West Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg experience, with Med Surg experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Neurology experience
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA, confirming good health and no physical limitations
- Annual fit mask testing (3M N95 1860 Small or Regular and Aura 9205 only); onsite fit testing may be accommodated if no clinic within 100 miles
- Tdap vaccination required (given after age 11); medical and religious exemptions accepted with approved documentation
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start; annual TB questionnaire required for positive TB responders
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity: 2 vaccines or positive titers required; boosters required if titers negative or equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Documentation of immunity or completion of 3-dose series required; candidate can start with 2nd booster pending
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titers required; boosters required if titers negative or equivocal
- Drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually; must include a full panel (Amphetamines, Barbiturates, Cocaine, Opiates, Phencyclidine, Benzodiazepines, Methadone, Propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); medical and religious exemptions accepted with approved documentation
- COVID-19 vaccination is not mandatory; proof of vaccination or signed declination accepted
Background & Documentation
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start (includes SSN trace, county, sex offender, national, and international searches if applicable)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated annually (completed independently)
- Sex offender search within 30 days of start, updated annually (processed by QMSearch)
- Valid driver's license required
- Social Security card required (legible)
- Primary source license verification (NURSYS) within 30 days of start
- Submission packet must include: candidate profile/work history, specialty skills checklist, minimum 2 manager/charge nurse references (within past 2 years), RN license verification, driver's license, and SSN
Additional Notes
- Permanent employees cannot return as travelers for 2 years after last permanent day worked at this facility
- Flu vaccine refusal without medical proof is not accepted during flu season
- Candidate must review and acknowledge facility-specific policies including dress code, blood administration, math calculation for medication administration, EKG review (for Telemetry/Stepdown, ICU, ER), and time and attendance policies
- Inservice training modules (including pass/fail testing) must be completed approximately 1 week before start; estimated 4 hours to complete
- Stroke education CEUs must be completed within 12 months prior to start and updated annually
- PAPR accommodations available if candidate cannot pass fit testing due to facial hair or face shape
