Job Opportunity: Cath Lab Tech

Location: Belleville, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Position Details

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Cath Lab Technologist
  • Recent Cath Lab Technologist experience within the last year
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current ARRT certification

Required Skills and Experience

  • Cardiac catheterization procedures including PCI, atherectomy, vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures
  • Experience with PACS and EPIC charting systems
  • Proficient in diagnostic and interventional cardiac cath lab settings
  • Familiarity with cardiac cath lab procedures such as:
    • Cardiac Stent Placement
    • Diagnostic Catheterizations (Adult)
    • IABP Placement/Removal
    • Impella insertion
    • Left and Right heart catheterization
    • Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI)
    • Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA)
    • Rotablader atherectomy
    • Temporary Pacemaker (preferred)
  • Preferred experience with electrophysiology studies including arrhythmia induction, cardiac ablation, cardiac mapping, cardioversion, conduction studies, and device insertion/programming (AICDs, pacemakers)
  • Preferred abdominal and pelvic angioplasty, embolization, mesenteric angiogram, and stent placement
  • Required vascular studies/procedures including angioplasty and upper/lower extremity angiography
  • Required venous access skills including central venous access (tunneled port)
  • Required equipment knowledge: fluoroscopy (required), Siemens equipment (preferred)
  • Procedural responsibilities include accurate monitoring, equipment setup, prep of access site, recognition of life-threatening arrhythmias, and maintaining sterile field
  • Preferred skills: EKG lead placement, vascular closure systems (e.g., Perclose, Starclose)
  • Professional knowledge: isolation precautions required; use of rapid response team preferred

Required Background and Compliance

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months of start, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • Education verification of highest related education required
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments at or floating to long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start required
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment
  • Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers required or documentation of immunity for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • TB testing (2 negative PPDs or equivalent)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Various facility-specific compliance documents and policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start (e.g., HIPAA, latex allergy questionnaire, confidentiality, hand hygiene, fingernail, dress code policies)
  • Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required and must be updated annually

References and History

  • Two professional references required (supervisors within last year preferred)
  • Employment application required
  • Performance evaluations may be requested but are not mandatory for extensions or per diem
