RN (Registered Nurse) - Float Position

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts in 4 weeks
Dress Code: Caribbean Blue scrubs

Job Overview

• Float RN position primarily on general medical and surgical units.
• Patient population includes diverse diagnoses such as chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, ESRD), GI issues (pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, IBD), infections (pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, C. diff), neurological conditions (stroke, dementia, TBI), and mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, substance abuse).
• Patients may undergo procedures including colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, I&D, biopsies, amputation).
• Patient ratios typically 1:5-6.
• Floating limited to other medical units only.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1.5 years of experience in Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care settings.
• At least 1 year of MedSurg experience at a large hospital (600+ beds).
• Valid Indiana RN license or compact RN license (effective 7/1/20).
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Skills and Responsibilities

• Provide general medical-surgical nursing care including assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication.
• Utilize electronic health records (Epic) and equipment such as Pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, Hospira IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, telemetry monitors, and SCDs for VTE prevention.
• Manage IV therapy including heparin and insulin drips.
• Participate in hospital orientation and nursing-specific orientation including Epic training (total orientation approximately 6 days).

Additional Information

• Non-billable orientation: 8 hours (orientation hours do not count toward guaranteed hours).
• Call-off policy: Client may cancel up to 24 hours before the start of the assignment.
• Local travelers (within 50 miles) are accepted with adjusted pay rates.
• No prior travel experience explicitly required.
