ICU Nurse Travel Assignment – Illinois
Job Overview
- Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU/Acute Care
- Location: Macomb, Illinois
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (7 AM – 7:30 PM or 7 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Schedule: Posted 6 weeks in advance; block scheduling may be accommodated
- Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend (night shifts) or every other weekend (day shifts)
- Holiday Requirement: Negotiable; willingness to work holidays is helpful
- Call/Standby: Not required but appreciated if willing to pick up shifts
Unit Details
- Unit Size: 7 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Patient Population:
- COPD, AFIB, post-op cases (e.g., colon resections)
- Diabetic patients, COVID-19 patients
- Occasional alcohol withdrawal, suicidal patients, GI bleeds
- Common Drips Managed: Cardizem, Levophed, Insulin (minimal sedation/ventilated patients)
Required Qualifications
- Licensure: Current Illinois RN license
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS (can be obtained onsite)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years ICU experience strongly preferred
- Skills: Proficiency in managing ICU patient conditions including titrating critical drips
Orientation
- 3 shifts during the first week:
- Day 1: 12-hour shift for HR, infection control, computer learning, and equipment training
- Day 2: 4 hours of unit orientation and staff development
- Day 3: 12-hour shift with a preceptor on the floor
Staffing & Support
- Charge nurse may take patient assignments
- House supervisor present during off shifts and weekends
- Hospitalist and Nurse Practitioner available daily; on-call at night
- ER, Anesthesia, and Cardiopulmonary physicians assist with emergent situations (e.g., intubations)
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 with ventilators, BiPAP, Vapotherm
- No dedicated monitor techs; RNs interpret telemetry strips (Nihon Kohden cardiac monitors)
Additional Details
- ICU staff may occasionally float to Med-Surg/Acute Care (1:4 ratio), but travelers generally remain in ICU
- Dress code: Pewter-colored scrub tops or jackets (outermost layer), black pants, black shoes, black socks
- Scheduling runs Sunday to Saturday
