Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU 4N

Location: Savannah, Georgia
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Shift: Nights (7 PM – 7 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (12-hour shifts)


Unit & Patient Population

  • Unit Type: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) combined with Med-Surg and Telemetry beds
  • Unit Size: 12 beds
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:4-5 depending on patient acuity
  • Common Diagnoses: Med-Surg conditions, Sickle Cell, Heart Failure, Stepdown patients
  • Drip Management: PCU nurses titrate set-rate drips (no phlebotomy; nurses draw their own labs)
  • Respiratory Equipment: Nasal cannulas, face masks, BiPAP
  • Telemetry Monitoring: Monitored remotely on the 3rd floor; RNs do not read their own strips
  • Charge Nurse: Yes, charge nurse takes an assignment
  • Nurse Aides: Yes, 1 aide per 12 patients
  • Dress Code: Navy scrubs
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduling allowed; block scheduling preferred by management
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license at time of submission
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant hospital experience, including at least 1 year in PCU

  • Experience in a hospital of similar size and acuity to this 12-bed unit
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Must pass clinical resume review for facility consideration
  • Strict 100-mile radius rule: local candidates will not be accepted
  • No license issues; submission must include a current NURSYS report

Application & Onboarding

  • Resume must include:
    • Number of beds and trauma level of all facilities worked in the past 3 years
    • Employment type (permanent, travel, or PRN)
    • Number of shifts worked per month if PRN
  • Full availability including all requested time off must be provided
  • Start date must align with compliance timelines
  • Orientation includes:
    • One day computer skills training with a basic knowledge assessment
    • Two shifts of orientation with a preceptor
    • Classroom orientation starts on Tuesdays; onboarding must be completed at least 7 calendar days before start date
  • Interview process includes clinical profile review and manager interview
  • Candidates should expect a call from a 912 area code; voicemail will be left if unanswered

Additional Notes

  • No phlebotomy duties; nurses draw their own labs
  • Telemetry monitors are Space Lab brand
  • No Tele/Monitor Techs on unit; monitoring done remotely
  • Quick start assignments require prior approval from onboarding team
