Overview

• Role: ER RN
• Location: Greenfield, Indiana
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
• Department: Emergency Services / ER RN
• Assignment note: This is a charge relief position

Required Qualifications

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• PALS (AHA)
• NIHSS - AHA Only
• 2 years minimum experience
• Triage/ER experience

Unit Details

• 18 beds, including 4 trauma bays
• 2 fast track rooms
• Triage area available
• Hold patients are intermixed
• 1 room designated for psych patients
• Security with weapon detectors at public entrances
• Average volume: 67 patients per day
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 4:1 in half the department and 5:1 in the other half
• No hall beds

Clinical Coverage and Workflow

• Common diagnoses include rule-out chest pain, abdominal/pelvic pain, diabetes, hypertension, COPD, and minor injuries
• RNs titrate drips and manage set-rate cardiac gtts
• RT is available 24/7 for breathing treatments, ABGs, bipaps, and vents
• RNs interpret telemetry strips
• X-ray and CT are next to the department and transport stable patients; assistance may be needed for larger patients at night
• RNs, techs, and medics perform blood draws
• Travelers may work in triage after passing the triage test
• ER staff routinely floats except to the ER overflow unit

Scheduling and Expectations

• Shifts vary, mostly 7a-7p and 7p-7a, with some 11a-11p and 3p-3a
• Scheduling is done 4-6 weeks in advance
• No block scheduling
• Every 3rd weekend required
• Holidays may be required depending on department need
• No call expected

Additional Notes

• Candidates who worked in a permanent capacity at Hancock Health within the last 6 months will not be considered
• One 12-hour orientation shift
