Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - PICU

Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks

Shift Details

• Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts
• Shift Hours: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Experience & Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• First-time travelers not accepted
• Must have current and valid Driver’s License or State-issued ID
• Must provide a utility bill in the traveler’s name with matching address dated within the last 3 months; address must be more than 75 miles from the contracted facility
• No more than 5 days of Return to Office (RTO) allowed

Unit & Patient Population

• Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
• Patient diagnoses include:

  • Respiratory/viral illness
  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
  • Neurological conditions
  • ENT surgery/complex airway
  • Reconstructive urology
  • Ingestion
  • Sepsis

Special Procedures

• Deep sedation for procedures such as lumbar puncture (LP), PICC line insertion, chest tube placement

Certifications & Licenses Required (Must be current prior to start)

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Additional Requirements

• Must be willing to float within scope to meet facility needs, including sister facilities
• Locals within 75 miles radius not accepted
• Pending state licenses not accepted
• Charting system: Epic

Background & Compliance Checks

• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and OFAC sanctions list checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
• Fingerprinting may be required depending on facility
• Education verification of highest level completed
• Drug screening including 10-panel with marijuana (negative result required) within 30 days of start, updated annually
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good health and no physical limitations
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap mandatory for PICU)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or history
  • Flu vaccine required annually (with approved exemptions)
  • COVID-19 vaccine documentation or declination accepted

Orientation & Facility Specific Requirements

• Patient Care Orientation Class (Skills) mandatory for all RNs
• EPIC training required if no EPIC experience within last 12 months
• Fit testing for N95 masks required onsite within 1 year of start
• Completion of facility-specific policy acknowledgments and agreements prior to start
• Vehicle information form must be completed prior to start

Competency Exams & Skills Verification

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (100% passing score)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (90% passing score)
• Unit-specific competency exams (80% passing score)
• Core competency exams covering safety, patient rights, ethics, infection control, etc. (80% passing score)
• Skills checklist updated annually and aligned with competency exams

References & Work History

• Two references required from former direct supervisors (one within 1 year, one within 3 years)
• Employment history covering last 7 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days
• 10-year work history verification including international positions

This position is ideal for experienced PICU RNs who meet the certification and compliance requirements and are willing to work night shifts on a travel contract basis.
